Two-time Super Bowl champion Damien Woody, who now works as an NFL analyst for ESPN, is sending a warning to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and other players around the league: Avoid the New York Giants.
During Thursday’s episode of Get Up, Woody delivered an impassioned plea to Stafford, warning him to steer clear of the “disaster” in East Rutherford and the “instability” that currently plagues the franchise.
“Matt Stafford can’t seriously want to go to the Giants. No way I would want to play for the New York Football Giants. The New York Football Giants are a disaster,” he said.
“If you’re Matt Stafford playing outdoors in the NFC East with all that type of inclement weather. What happens if things don’t roll your way? That whole regime could be out, then you could be in a situation where you got a whole new regime coming in. I don’t want any part of that instability if I’m Matthew Stafford.”
Woody, who spent three seasons with the New York Jets, knows a little something about unstable franchises. But he’s also not wrong — the Giants have become the NFL’s laughingstock over the past decade and the current regime is on thin ice entering 2025.
With potential changes up ahead, it may give players like Stafford some pause. At the same time, the only way to turn an organization around is to build a roster of quality talent and go win games. Some may see that as a challenge, while also shy away from it.
Woody knows which path he’d take but others may not heed that warning.
