Rise and Phight: 4/11/2025 – The Good Phight

That’s a series against the hated Braves in the books. Now onto St. Louis and Busch Stadium (Busch Stadium III, if you’re a history buff). Fun fact about the Cardinals: outfielder Lars Nootbaar parlayed his success with the 2024 World Baseball Classic-winning Samurai Japan into a role doing commercials for a Japanese protein bar (baar?). The commercial is pretty funny.

Onto the links:

Phillies news:

The Athletic takes a look at the Phillies bullpen, and in particular José Alvarado. Come for the analysis, stay for the shocking news about how much coffee Alvarado drinks.

Here at The Good Phight, we’re recapping the Phillies’ 2015 season. Over at MLB.com, they’re recapping a season a century older than that.

Before the Phanatic made his indelible mark on the city, the Phillies were represented by a pair of colonial-era dressed mascots named Phil and Phillis. You won’t see them at the Bank, but they’re around if you know where to look for them.

MLB news:

MLB is floating the idea of a salary cap. This, of course, raises the specter of a lockout and a curtailed 2026. Don’t take this season for granted.

Team USA has named their manager and GM for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The White Sox, perhaps tired of hearing fans say the only thing the team has going for them is Rate Field’s fancy milkshakes, are calling up a top infield prospect.

The Phillies didn’t have to deal with Spencer Strider in their first series against Atlanta. But he’s on his way back, and looking sharp.
