Pam Bondi promised that Thursday would bring an Epstein files drop, and as folks waited on that on social media whoever was running the Republican House Judiciary Committee account on X came up with an inexplicable idea.
Turn it into a joke and “Rickroll” folks.
So, in a since deleted post, the account shared: “BREAKING: EPSTEIN FILES RELEASED.” That was accompanied by a link for folks to click on. But the link wasn’t to Epstein files, instead it was to Rick Astley’s 1987 hit song, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
That had even fellow Republicans blasting the account.
“The amount of people hurt by Epstein is not a joke,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R., Fla.) wrote on X. “Whoever posted this is going to get fired. Disgusting behavior.”
“Just a stunning lack of judgement by the people responsible for this account,” right-wing political commentator Matt Walsh wrote on X.
“So @JudiciaryGOP don’t think we are going to over look your disgusting unprofessional actions today,” Jenifer Lawrence wrote. “(Jim Jordan) & other members of the GOP House Judiciary Committee, care to comment? PS ware are not going to let this go.”
“They may have deleted it but the internet is forever,” right-wing influencer Gunther Eagleman wrote. “@JudiciaryGOP you took the mask off. Too late to try and put it back on.”
Thus far, no comment from the account or those behind it about the post, and it will be interesting to see if they do come up with something. The MAGA crowd is not happy, and there were plenty of left-wing influencers who were less than pleased by the “Rickroll” move, too.
