INDIANAPOLIS — Both directions of Meridian Street were closed on Indianapolis’ near south side Wednesday morning due to a house fire.
The fire was reported around 5:45 a.m. Feb. 19 in the 2100 block of South Meridian Street, just north of East Raymond Street.
Crews worked for more than 30 minutes to bring the fire on the second story of a vacant home under control, fire officials told 13News, adding that there was a previous fire at the home in 2024.
Officials estimated roughly $75,000 in damages.
An Indianapolis Fire Department battalion chief told 13News a driver on Meridian Street nearly hit two firefighters and drove over hoses, nearly breaking equipment used to transport water.Â
The battalion chief stressed the importance for drivers to not drive over hoses and through scenes where fire crews are working.Â
