WINCHESTER — To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Navy Federal Credit Union employees partnered with the nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels organization to send 28,480 handwritten cards to hospitalized veterans and active-duty deployed troops as part of their annual Valentines for Veterans project.
More than 1,800 of the cards were prepared by employees at the credit union’s Winchester Operations Center, according to Navy Federal Corporate Communications Strategist Haley Revette.
“These valentines may seem like small gestures, but to the veteran patient recovering in a VA (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs) facility or to a service member deployed far from home, they mean the world,” Amy Palmer, president and CEO of the Texas-based military support organization Soldiers’ Angels, said in a media release. “We are grateful to the Navy Federal team members for stepping up and helping remind our heroes that they are not forgotten, that their sacrifices are deeply appreciated and that they remain in the hearts of the American people.”
Letter-writing stations where Navy Federal employees could quickly complete a Valentine’s Day card were active across the credit union’s nationwide campuses from Jan. 26 until Feb. 7, the release states. Several of Navy Federal’s branch locations also completed Valentines for Veterans as a team volunteer activity.
“These simple service projects are a great way to jumpstart momentum with our volunteers early in the year,” Natasha Johnson, branch operations marketing liaison and community service champion at Navy Federal, said in the media release. “Valentines for Veterans is an easy, heartfelt way for us to show our members that we care, and the flexibility of card-writing allows us to engage our entire workforce.”
