Manchester City Women v Leicester City Women: Preview, Team News and Prediction

Manchester City Women can take a huge step towards the FA Cup Sixth Round on Sunday afternoon as they welcome WSL strugglers Leicester City to the Joie Stadium. The Blues will be riding high after beating Arsenal on Thursday evening to reach the League Cup Final against Chelsea and they’ll be hoping for a similar outcome against the Foxes.

With the League almost gone and a difficult route to the Champions League final, Gareth Taylor’s side could see the domestic competitions as their best chance for silverware this season.

To get to this stage, the Blues beat Ipswich Town 3-0 at the Joie Stadium in January, while Leicester ran out 4-1 winners at home to Stoke City a few days later.

Form

City’s form has been erratic, which has led to a drop in the WSL table. Back-to-back home defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal have been softened by victories at Aston Villa and the League Cup win on Thursday at Arsenal.

The Blues have one more match to play this month before the international break arrives, then it’s a tough quartet of fixtures against Chelsea on the horizon.

Leicester are once again struggling in the WSL, sitting second from bottom in the league, just three points ahead of the newbies Crystal Palace. They have won just two and lost eight of their 13 fixtures so far this season and once again are in real danger of relegation.

Those two wins have come at home to both Everton (1-0) and Liverpool (2-1) but they have failed to win away in seven attempts.

Team News

Bunny Shaw may be in contention for a place in the side after withdrawing from the squad that faced Arsenal due to racist and misogynistic abuse suffered last Sunday against the same opposition. Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp are also likely to miss out through injury.

Prediction

City won the league fixture 4-0 and I don’t see any problems this time around and going for the same scoreline.

City 4-0 Leicester
