Gibraltar is progressing, the Farani are progressing, everyone is progressing

Jezera coach and former Montenegrin national team player Miodrag Džudović watched the match between the Czech Republic and the Faroe Islands (2:1) last Saturday and it is clear to him that Montenegro will face a significantly more difficult task against the Faroes tonight than it did against Gibraltar three days ago.

“Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands are not in the same league and have never been in the same league. Regardless of the fact that Gibraltar has improved significantly compared to the previous matches we played with them three years ago. Now it is a different team, with new players, who want to play. All teams are improving, the same is the case with the Faroe Islands, who started this trend much earlier. This is something that we also have to follow, otherwise it will be very difficult for us,” said Džudović in interview for Meridiansports.

The former assistant coach of previous coaches, Ljubiša Tumbaković and Faruk Hadžibegić, who led the national team independently in two matches, warns about the qualities of the Faran team, who only gave up in the final against the Czech Republic.

“They pleasantly surprised me, they are a very well-organized team that knows what they want to the extent that their quality allows it. They are physically strong, confident, and they stand well on the field in the defensive block. Now, I read their coach’s statement that they will play more offensively against us. It is possible that their appetites have increased after the good performance against the Czech Republic, I would like it to be that way, it would be better for us,” adds Džudović, the current coach of Jezera.

Džudović, who played 26 games for the national team and scored one goal (on his debut, in 2008 against Macedonia), has understanding for the players who played at a lower level than expected against Gibraltar.

“All of them, all of us were shaken by the death of Andrija Delibasic, our comrade, friend, brother. Realizing that he was no more – it was a huge shock and stress. A great tragedy and a great loss for Montenegrin football, for Montenegro in general, it is difficult to reconcile and it is difficult to find the right words.”8

Džudović is Delibašić’s contemporary in the national team – they wore the national team jersey around the same time (2008 – 2013).

“It’s a great sadness, but because of his kindness and everything he did for our football, the players need to find more motivation in the qualifiers to give their best, to play for him,” says Džudović.

After the duel with the French, what awaits the Montenegrin national team in the rest of the qualifiers are duels with the favorites – the Czech Republic in June, then the Czech Republic again, and then Croatia in September.

“You can’t plan anything, you have to take it match by match. For starters, the most important thing is to do well against the Faroe Islands, that would be a good start. I watched the France-Croatia game, a duel between two football giants, and if one of them had to come to our group, it’s better that it’s Croatia, even though they’re a great team. The most important thing for us is to take it step by step and stay in a good scoring mood until the end of the qualifiers. That would be great and I think we have a good chance.”

This season, Džudović is sitting on the bench of Jezera from Plav, the club where he began his football career.

The fight for survival is going well in the last round, especially after victories over Jedinstvo at home, Dečić away and a draw against the leader and already seen champion, the team Budućnost.

“The boys are working well and I’m pleased with that. There was a period at the beginning of the second half of the season when our good games weren’t followed by results, but now it’s coming back to us – when you play well continuously, results will surely come. We have a big fight to the end, this break due to national team obligations has been good for us so that some players can recover, because it’s difficult to keep up with the fast pace of the championship, especially on difficult pitches,” concluded Miodrag Džudović.
