Former first-round LB James Farrior, a Jet and former Glenn playing partner, offered similar sentiments: “I am blessed to have played with him. He was one of the first teachers I had in my early years that showed me what being a pro is all about. Did everything the right way, led by example. No doubt in my mind he will make the Jets a better team. They definitely got this one right. Congrats, brother. Wishing you nothing but continued success!”
Another defensive player on the AG Train was Leger Douzable, the former DL who has been an analyst for recent newyorkjets.com shows.
“Before Darrelle Revis, the corner that everybody looked up to for the New York Jets was Aaron Glenn,” Douzable said in an X(Twitter) video. “He’s going to bring that tenacity that he played with, he’s going to change the culture. … I go back to when [Detroit HC] Dan Campbell had him speak during ‘Hard Knocks’ to not only the players and the coaches but the front office people. I’ve never seen that room more engaged than when Aaron Glenn was talking.
“He will command the room. He is a leader of men. I cannot wait for him to get this going.”
The offensive side of the ball, not to be outdone, had similar stirring sentiments about Glenn occupying the big office on the first floor of the Atlantic Health Training Center.
“Aaron was a leader on our defense and a great teammate who made players around him better,” Kevin Mawae, Pro Football Hall of Fame and Jets Ring of Honor center, said in a statement. “I have proudly watched his ascension through the coaching ranks of the NFL and am not surprised by his success. He will be a great choice for Gang Green and bring pride back to the Meadowlands for fans and former players alike.”
“Aaron Glenn is a great hire!” former Green & White FB Jerald Sowell said. “He checks all the boxes when it comes to his character, his leadership, his ability to motivate, his preparation and his ability to win. He definitely played under the two best coaches of all time, [Bill] Parcells and [Bill] Belichick. I think he will do well as the head coach of the NY Jets!”
