While it’s rare to hear the in-depth details about behind-the-scenes moments involving high-profile celebrities, the stories that get told typically do not disappoint.
This was the case for two well-respected actors, Punisher’s Jon Bernthal and Spider-Man’s Tom Holland. While speaking with IMDB recently, Bernthal addressed when he and Holland read lines before being cast in the two Marvel roles.
Bernthal offered a rave review of Holland while explaining that they both helped each other and were ultimately cast as Punisher and Spider-Man.
“He’s the best, he is the best. He had such drive, you know that young kid, he was like ‘I am gonna get this,'” Bernthal explained.
“We actually were in a very tiny town in Ireland, making this movie in the west coast of Ireland. He read with me for Punisher and I read with him for Spider-Man and we both got cast.”
It’s a great story from Bernthal, and the film he referenced was the 2017 movie Pilgrimage.
Bernthal played Punisher in 26 episodes of the television series that ran from 2017-19. He’s set to reprise the role in 2026 on a Disney+ special that he’ll also serve as a writer for.
As for Holland, he’s played the role of Spider-Man in multiple Marvel films dating back to 2016.
The impressive list of films includes Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He’ll also reprise the role in the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and there are rumors he’ll be in Avengers: Doomsday.
