STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Coffee drinkers should check their cabinets for a potentially mislabeled product that could deliver an unexpected caffeine boost.
Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA has voluntarily recalled a portion of Our Family Traverse City Cherry Artificially Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee due to mislabeling, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
Some of the 12-ounce bags were incorrectly labeled as decaffeinated when they actually contain regular caffeinated coffee.
The recalled product has a UPC code of 0 70253 11080 1 and a best before date of Aug. 3, 2025. The code “BEST BEFORE 080325 V 15:37 C” is printed on the packaging. A total of 692 cases, each containing six 12-ounce bags, are affected by this recall.
The mislabeled coffee was distributed by SpartanNash Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan, to its retail stores and distribution centers in Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA initiated the voluntary recall on March 13, after the labeling error was discovered.
The FDA classified this as a Class II recall on March 25, indicating it is a situation where exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
Consumers who purchased the recalled coffee can contact Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA for a refund.
